Dear Sir, The recent water shortage in the city of Mumbai shows that how desperate people have become due to water. There is a need for people to save water if we need to save the earth. Recently a Ghatkopar based NGO in Mumbai, Swaraj Prathistan circulated leaflets of different methods to save water, which I would like to share with your readers. 1) Use small glasses to drink water. 2) Left out water should be used for watering plants. Water used for washing vegetables or grains are good for plants. 3) Instead of using a bathtub and a shower for bathing, use a bucket for bathing it helps save water. 4) Water never become stale. 5) While working in the house or washing utensils keep a bucket or a utensil under the flowering water tap. 6) Never open the tap completely, open them half or three-fourth. 7) Make a habit of using a bucket or a mug for shaving, Brushing, Bathing and washing cars. 8) Balconies and common passages can be swept clean with a damp cloth instead of washing them by pouring a lot of water. 9) If you have wells in your surroundings, do not pollute them by dumping waste in it. 10) Use the well water for watering plants in the garden. 11) Well water can also be used for washing vehicles. 12) Use rain water for your daily need during monsoons. 13) To maintain the ground water level, recycle the rain water or to maintain ground water level recharge the well/bore wells by rain water harvesting. 14) If it rains more do not neglect the above suggestion because TODAYS SAVING IS TOMORROWS HELP. I thank this NGO, Swaraj Prathistan for such thoughtful gestures of saving water by distributing leaflets of methods to save water. Today is the time to save water if we need to save the earth. The Global warming is killing the earth and if today we do not arise to save water, we will be affected by water shortages. Its time that we work together to save water and save the earth.
