Sir, In recent times there is a steep increase of suicides among students, mainly teenage students. Today the students are exposed to too many things and many parents expect them to excel in academics and other fields. Many students develop suicidal tendencies when they find their parents and teachers are not co-operative in handling their personal stress and anxiety. Many parents and teachers in order to see that their children excel in academics and other fields deliberately force their children to over-stress themselves rather than allowing their children to grow with care and dignity. Many students cannot cope up with their parents and teachers high expectation, thus resulting in building within themselves this suicidal tendencies and when they find they cannot cope up with these tendencies, they take the ultimate step of committing suicides. Other go in for alcohol and drugs to fight this tendencies, thus ruining their lives at an early age. It has also been noticed that these days many parents want to admit their children in English medium schools, and that these students cannot cope up with the education system in these schools which has also developed in them the Learning Disability Syndrome, and are treated as slow learners. These cases has increased in recent times and there is an urgent need for the parents, students and teachers to be counseled. As the S.S.C. & H.Sc examinations results are due, there is a need for the schools to counsel the parents and teachers along with their children that Failure is not the end of life, but a new beginning which could be used to educate themselves in different fields besides look into passing in their academic career. These students should use their failure as a blessing and learn new things. Parents and teachers must not discourage their child who has failed or got less percentage but help them grow with dignity. Parents must not expect too much from their children but allow their children to understand the need of human dignity and concern for other people. These children should be encouraged to join in social activities before they fall prey to negative ideals like alcohol, drugs, smoking etc. and allow them to build their personal status.
