I fully support the Diocesan Bishop of Vasai, Archbishop Felix Machado, who along with Rev. Fr. Francis de Britto's Harit Vasai Andolan has joined the residents of 53 villages to protest against the builder sharks attacking the Vasai-Virar belt in Maharashtra. I condemn the police attacks on innocent villagers who were protesting under Vasai Jan Andolan. These attacks on hapless villagers have increased in recent times and there is a need for the State Government to intervene and stop the builder sharks from attacking the villages. I appeal to the State Chief Minister, Shri Ashok Chavan to stop such attacks and prevent the intervention of the builders in the villages of Vasai-Virar and to restore the Vasai-Virar belt as the green belt of the state.
