Dear Editor, The Christians of Pakistan celebrated the 62nd independence day of Pakistan with fear and pain. The incident of Gojra leaves a deep impact in the hearts of Christian community. They are feeling insecure in their own homeland. Their belief, their lives and their respect are in danger. As the extremism is growing in Pakistan day by day the Blasphemy Law is becoming the easy tool to persecute the minorities of Pakistan. The infamous blasphemy laws, which impose the death penalty on anyone who offends the Qur‘an and the prophet Muhammad, were introduced in Pakistan in the 1980s when the country was ruled by then military dictator General Zia-ul-Haq. Ever since, they have been to perpetrate endless violence against Christians and members of other religions. The original Constitution of Pakistan did not discriminate between Muslims and non-Muslims. However, the amendments made during Zia-ul-Haq's Islamization led to the controversial Hudood Ordinance and Shariat Court. Christians was expected from the liberal dictator General Pervaiz Mushraff that he will diminish this law and saved them from this hanging sword but he was failed as he was failed in portraying his image as a liberal leader. This is a time of need to the Government of Pakistan as there is a so-called Liberal people who are presently ruling Pakistan to think seriously about this issue and to pass the resolution from the Parliament to abolish Blasphemy Law totally. This is the duty of the true representation of the people of Pakistan who are sitting in the parliament to cut the crop of Blasphemy Law, which was sowed by the dictator General Zia-ul-haq. As they are preparing to cut the crops of 58(2) B and 17th amendment sowed by dictator General Pervaiz mushraf. The Christian community of Pakistan is waiting for his true Messiah who will help them out from the curse of the Blasphemy Law. Blasphemy laws should be scrapped as early as possible. It brings a bad name to Islam and shame on Pakistan.
