The Knights were also bankers and the King of France owed them a bunch of money. So the King of France made up all the charges on the Templars. The pope at the time feared the King of france, so he secretly exonerated the Templars. Also the Templars never disbanded in Portugal and Spain. The pope changed their names to Knights of Christ in Spain, and Order of Montessa in Portugal. Vasco de Gama and Prince Henry the Navagator were Knights of Christ. Christopher Columbus' flagship, the Santa Maria was carrying the Knight of Christ flag. The flag of the Templars was a red cross on a white background. The flag on the Santa Maria was a red cross on a white background with the inside the flag being white. Christopher Columbus married the daughter of the Grandmaster of the Knights of Christ. Also the Shroud of Turin which was in the De Charnay family and then given to the Savoy family and then given to the church was found to be the relic that was used by the Knights Templar.
