The most recent incident of false accusation and refusing of bail of Mr. Joseph Francis a familiar face and very strong human rights activist is really brutal and painful. We strongly condemn the silence from the government side and un-justified pressures from the Muslim fanatics. It has been seen through the history of Pakistan that all those who had been the loud voice of minorities and particularly of the under-privileged sections of our society were either pressurized, put to jails or been killed. We as the society of Pakistan are facing countless problems because good people have always been persecuted and not been allowed to work for the ultimate development of the people and their rights. Joseph Francis besides his human weaknesses is a major source for uplifting the marginalized groups particularly the voice of minorities is facing tough time because he has been fighting for the GOOD. A survey report being conducted on migration from Pakistan to other countries portrait that during the last two decades thousands of male and female human rights workers and development professionals have left Pakistan because of such interventions. Our concern is that if this routine continues, who will work for those who are deprived and in great distress? Who will be the voice of voiceless and unheard? Who will end up the violence and injustice? For this and more reasons; We strongly condemn the false allegations being forced on Joseph Francis and his colleagues and condemn the brutal acts of fundamentalists in Pakistan. We also request the UNO organizations, Human Rights organizations, Civil Society organization, donor agencies and most of all the Government of Pakistan particularly Chief Justice of Pakistan to take firm steps to protect human rights activists.
