My Dear Fellow Templars, I am forwarding to you an article by Dr. Stephen Gill about Islam's view of "apostasy" and "blasphemy." In sharing this letter with you, I want to make it clear that I do not want to engender intolerance or bigotry on our own part. There are many Muslims who are tolerant and who are promoting an agenda of tolerance. Our struggle is with the Islamic world that would impose its beliefs and standards upon the rest of us, while dehumanizing us as "infidels" and therefore unworthy of life or liberty. I am planning another mission to Pakistan next year, with the exception that I will go as a "footsoldier" of this order, and not as a prior. We do not need titles or ranks to do such work. But I hope to go with your prayers and your well wishes! I believe that we need to work with Muslim groups in the US and Canada in order to find moderates who will embrace our cause. In fact, Muslims living outside the Islamic nations may just be the key to instituting reforms in the Islamic world. We have seen many instances of moderate Muslims being silenced through intimidation or outright killed in the so-called "Islamic republics." Let us all, in the meantime, offer our most heartfelt prayers for Chev. Dr. Ken Cooper, who is bringing the Gospel to the people of China. Let us offer prayers for the success of his mission, as well as prayers of protection for him and his new Chinese bride! My son's wife is Japanese, and she is one of the very few Christians from that nation. There is one thing I have definitely noticed: when someone in a predominantly non-Christian country embraces Christianity, he or she traditionally does so with a fervor that makes our own devotion seem to pale by comparison! May our Lord bless this union and keep the Coopers in His grace and protection forever and ever! I will write more later . . . I have some "dues out" to all of you!
