Bishop Malik's attitude and the Church of Pakistan... By Rev. Shafiq Kanwal

An open letter to the Leaders of: The Church of England The Church of India The Church of Pakistan Dear sisters and brothers, Greetings, love and peace from Pakistan. The world is fighting war on terrorism and so are we. The Churches and Christians all over Pakistan have been attacked on various occasions and we have seen casualties of innocent Christians who had nothing to do with the International and local Church politics. It is sad to note that Bishop Alexander John Malik of Lahore in order to keep his hold on the properties handed over to the Church by the Church of the British Raj through the Church of India is trying to relocate and associate himself with the Church of India and the Church of England. In the presence of the law references at hand by which the Church of England through The Indian Church Measure of 1927" and The Indian Church Act of 1927" legislated to the dissolution of the legal union between the Church of England and the Church of England in India it is very difficult for him to succeed. The status of the Indian Church functioning through the Governor-General in Council and the Metropolitan Bishop of the See of Calcutta had clear and well defined laws and rules through which they functioned to govern the Indian Church. I do not know what will be the end result of the litigation in this regard but one thing is sure that the Church of Pakistan through the present attempt of Bishop Malik is likely to be seen differently with its claimed ties with the Church of India and the Church of England in Pakistan. No doubt Bishop Malik will be well protected by the Government agencies at his Cathedral and else where for his personal security, but what about the commoners who stand nowhere. The second question is the fate of the Church of Pakistan. The history of the Church of Pakistan and the denominations of the uniting churches have a number of resolutions on record which led to the union in 1970. Can all that be undone for the sake of one person who is Bishop Malik? Rev.
