Objective of USPG

By :

Dear Sister in Christ, Greeting from the Church of Pakistan. On Sunday i.e. 30th Nov. 2003 one of my friends gave me the copies of some letters, written by the officials of USPG. On the letterhead of USPG I read the objective of USPG, which is Sharing Faith in Today s World . I do not want to criticize you nor I want any clarification or reply from you regarding this mail. All I was to do is to convey you a thought on behalf of millions of other members of Church of Pakistan and that is, what ever we the members of Church of Pakistan know about USPG is that because of USPG our Church is divided into two groups. One group is supported by the USPG and the other one is supported by the members of Church of Pakistan. I also read your views regarding Church of Pakistan on Church Times site, where you have very diplomatically supported one group i.e. Bishop Dr. Alexander John Malik and his group by saying that they are the Most Constitutional Group. Their constitutionality has also been endorsed by the Honorable High Court in Pakistan by restraining them from acting, styling, claiming and working (making constitutional changes for their personal interests). Further more the High Court has also restrained them from selling Church Properties. I know that you will never admit that you know Bishop Malik s group has been selling Church properties but dear sister it is a reality and here your Faith, faith of USPG applies. Regarding the Cases at Karachi Diocese, policy of USPG was to Honor the decision of the Honorable High Court and now when the same Court has issued retraining orders against this home made Synod of Dr. Malik the same Partners are meeting and recognizing them as the Synod of the Church of Pakistan. Is this the Faith of USPG? Regarding the Bishop of Peshawar please refer to the letters:- 1. Michael J. Hart (Assistant Secretary USPG) dated November 1998 regarding the appointment of Bishop Mano as full-time Secretary of USPG. 2. Canon Helen Conlifte dated 23 February and 7th April 2000. 3. Mr. Aziz Gul (Former and undisputed Secretary of Synod Church of Pakistan) dated 29-11-99. Please note that the Synod of the Church of Pakistan was divided in 2000. In the letter dated 29th Nov. 1998 Mr. Gulf has declared that the Seat of the Bishop of Hyderabad vacant. All these letters are regarding Bishop Mano Romal Shah s resignation from the responsibilities of Bishop of Peshawar and appointment as the Secretary at USPG. You are very well aware about this issue but have never said any thing about this illegal action of Bishop Malik and Bishop Mano Romal Shah as he Bishop Mano is your Boss. When he has resigned from the post of Bishop now what he is doing in Peshawar Diocese? Now when he has finished his responsibilities with USPG, once again in your books he is the Bishop of Peshawar. Is this the Faith of USPG? If aforesaid is the Faith of USPG and this is what USPG is sharing in today s world, are you really united for the propagation of Gospel? I think that senior officials of USPG should re-think about the objective of USPG and it must be re-phrased. Please forgive me if I hurt you but this is the reality. May the Lord give you vision and His fear Akhter Masih Member, Church of Pakistan
