Dear Mr. Bhatti, I was quite amused to read the comments on my article 'Just and Unjust War' by Swaali. The fellow is undoubtedly an ignoramus. He does not have the civility to spell my first name correctly and has a serious problem in expressing himself intelligibly. The purpose of the article was to delineate the theological-philosophical origins of the doctrine of just and unjust war. I had already noted that after the rise of Machiavellian realism war became a positive pursuit and fitted in very well with expansion and aggrandizement and was therefore no longer subjected to Christian values. However, in the USA the doctrine of just and unjust war has been debated since at the least the time of the First World War and that tradition continues. Moreover, President Bush professes to have regained his faith after a period of indulgence. The whole idea was to see if any of the classic reasons for waging war on Iraq exist. Swaali's defence of the American-British approach is not very original or profound, but I welcome his right to hold such an opinion. The fact remains that Swaali is a windbag with pretensions to intellectualism but very little to demonstrate its seriousness. I think you should have a good look at such commentaries before publishing them because giving space to utter crap does no good to the reputation of The Pakistan Christian Post. Sincerely, Ishtiaq Ahmed Moderator Asiapeace - An electronic discussion group
