PCC appeals Altaf Hussain to withdraw from continuity of Joint Electorate from draft resolution of 18th amendment by MQM: Nazir Bhatti
Philadelphia: January 27, 2009. Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, Chief of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC, said here in a statement that 18th amendment draft presented by MQM in national assembly of Pakistan has surprised millions of Christian who consider MQM as inheritance of founding fathers of Pakistan Movement who demanded Separate Electorate during British colonial rule in India. Khan Liaquat Ali Khan being leader of All India Muslim League and Premier of Pakistan endorsed Separate Electorate for Christians who is taken as Icon by MQM but inclusion of continuity of Joint Electorate in MQM presented draft resolution of 18th amendment in constitution of Pakistan have disturbed Pakistani Christians.
“Joint Electorate enables Muslim feudal lords and business tycoons to select Christians of their choice in national assembly and provincial assemblies to add strength but MQM is not party of feudal lords and business tycoons but representative of poor’s in Pakistan then why MQM supports Joint Electorate instead of Separate Electorate” said Nazir Bhatti
Nazir Bhatti added “ Pakistani Christians appreciate MQM objectives and organizational structure and support its struggle for rights of downtrodden communities but Christians are son of soil and a nation in Pakistan who have been deprived of equal basic democratic rights while to impose Christian leadership on millions of Christians in parliament through Joint Electorate is un-democratic which MQM shall not support”
PCC appeals to MQM chief Altaf Hussian to make changes in 18th amendment draft resolution and include “Dual Voting” rights for minorities instead of “Joint Elections”
In Dual Voting rights, Christians can vote and elect their representation by their votes and vote for Muslims in their respective constituencies.
The Dual Vote is not any new system but already awarded to Kashmiri Muslims who vote for legislative assembly of Azad Kashmir in Pakistan and vote for national assembly of Pakistan in their respective constituencies.
Martyr Benazir Bhutto, Chairperson of PPP promised Christians to legislate Dual Voting for Christians in Pakistan while MQM forefathers demanded Separate Electorates and awarded same to Christians.
Nazir Bhatti said, “I appeal to Altaf Hussian to intervene in matter to endorse Dual voting rights for minorities in 18th amendment presented by MQM”
Christians in Pakistan were happy and enjoying Separate Electorate when tools of Catholic Bishops Conference in Pakistan like Shahbaz Bhatti, Cecil Chaudry and Mehboob Sada on intimation of ISI and government agencies demanded Joint Electorate because bishops were not in VVIP list of government of Pakistan during Separate Electorate but elected representatives which was not liked by clergy.
