Faisalabad: Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) expresses deep concern and strong condemnation over the case of Maria Shahbaz, a 13-year-old Christi
Though history is replete with accounts of people, who deceived in the name of religion yet Pakistan government's spokesperson, Shahbaz Bhatti has emerged as liar of liars, who continued grabbing money in the name of religion for his self-promotion. Now, when the saga of Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti's series of lies has surfaced it is duty of every Christian not to deal with a man, who holds his political party's interests higher than the poor Christian community of Pakistan. It is better to have no leader than to have a leader like Rev. Shahbaz Bhatti, who had no problem in even changing his denominational affiliation. It would have been relatively fair if it was only a matter of change of denomination. Rev. Shahbaz, in a very tactful way, kept satisfying the Catholic as well as Evangelical camps at the same time. It was necessary for him to come up with this duality of character because that meant uninterrupted flow of money from each side. The dual role also made it convenient for him to win support of the Catholic as well as protestant church. Foul deeds, no matter, what degree of perfection they are executed with, are destined to be exposed. Pakistani Christians and global international Christian community should make no different demand than the Chief Executive Officer of the Voice of Martyrs' Canada, who demanded of the Federal Minister to state that "Minorities do not enjoy equal opportunities." If Rev. Shahbaz Bhatti has any concern for the oppressed minorities of Pakistan then he should make a factual statement, for only a true statement regarding state of Pakistani minorities by the Federal Minster could undo the hurt that his statement has done to Pakistani minorities. The Christian leaders who otherwise keep preaching the values of truth and straightforwardness should also distance themselves from the Federal Minister. If they continue to behave the way they behaved in the past by becoming active part of the minister's ambitious campaign, then they can never expect to be pardoned by the victimized Christian community of Pakistan as well as from our Lord. After unfolding of truth only those people are supposed to support Rev. Shahbaz Bhatti who are enjoying share of this filthy game. One argues why allies of dual faced leader could not support mainstream churches, organizations or leading human rights concerns. The group of characterless less people surrounding the government's spokesman cannot get any bribes or kickbacks if they start projecting a mainstream church or human rights organizations. Their interests are best served when they start projecting a person like the Federal Minister, who does not have any conscience. He has least concern for Pakistani minorities. He has been simply faking to have burden for Pakistani Christians.
When Messiah was born, Herod had announced that all babies under 2 years of age be slaughtered since he did not want his power and rule be taken over by someone else. He just wanted to continue clinging on to power. He however knew that he was not immortal. Even today there are so many Herods present around the world, and one of these Herods is Apostle Shahbaz Bhatti, who clams to be a leader of minorities in Pakistan where poor religious minorities do not have fundamental rights. They are persecuted because of their faith. They are denied jobs because of following Christ. They live in a land where vulnerable teenaged minority girls are kidnapped, drugged and raped and forced to embrace Islam. http://www.persecution.org/suffering/newssummpopup.php?newscode=9306&PHPSESSID=1e107a53fbe23525048f412861901116

In the backdrop of this bleak scenario, a statement of Pakistani Federal Minister that Pakistani minorities enjoy equal opportunities is an outright lie. It has drawn a considerable condemnation from Christians across the world but it is time that the Christians in Pakistan and elsewhere in the world awake to the reality of the so-called leaders like Apostle Shahbaz Bhatti. Has any apostle mentioned in the word of God ever made a statement against his own people? Instead the apostles pleaded the case of their people and even faced persecution for standing up for the rights of their people. Government appoints ministers so that they could brief their superiors say President and Prime Minister about the problems being faced by their electorate or community. If a certain minister makes a press statement that his people already are enjoying equal opportunities then the government would do least to attend to the problems facing by the people of that community. The people of minorities are living in deplorable conditions in slums of Islamabad. They are deprived of basic facilities of life. Apostle Shahbaz Bhatti who also is the Federal Minister for Minorities Affairs lives in Islamabad has never raised voice for the rights of the Christians living in Islamabad slums. One can assume that he never visited these slums even. If he could not get time to visit these slums which fall in the capital then how could he make a statement that minorities in Pakistan are enjoying equal opportunities?
The ambassadors of Christ-- pastors, laymen, evangelists are pressured, kidnapped and persecuted by radical Islamists and militant organizations. It is sad to note that the persecution-related incidents are only reported by Christian media organizations and these harrowing incidents of discrimination and injustice are not brought to fore by national media organization. It is because of their prejudiced stance toward minorities. Killing of people after falling of a bus in a ditch makes front line news, a birthday anniversary of a local leader does make a news, demonstration of angry Muslims over one thing or another does make a news, conversion of a Christian to Islam does make a news on electronic and print media, birth of twin babies does make a news. When these and several other incidents could make news in national media and some of them can make front-page news then why is it that the national media of Pakistan as well as that of other Islamic countries does not cover stories of the persecuted Christians. Silence of the media only suggests that they are covert partners of the perpetrators of kidnapping, rape, torture and persecution of the Christian and other religious minorities of Pakistan.
