Lahore: December 24, 2008. (PCP report by Margaret Piara) The Catholic NGO Milap Organization and the protestant church jointly organized a Christmas program at St. John Church at Mianmir Colony, Lahore Cantt for the poor people of the vicinity. The children of Sunday school presented the Christmas play and Christmas carols. The Sunday school teacher Roneea prepared this, and the Milap teacher Sonia Sadiq helped her to prepare the dresses and others. It was a joint venture to promote peace and harmony among the denominations of the area. After the children’s program the youth sang Christmas carols. They also had few skits depicting the present day bomb blasts in the country where many people are killed and several wounded. The high prices of the common commodities were also presented in the skits to show the solidity with the poor people of the place. Then the difference between the poor and the rich was well praised how they mistreat the poor and the laborer class. Their conclusion of the skits was that Jesus has come to bring peace and harmony and consolation to face all the realities of life as he also went through so many difficulties in his earthly life from the birth in the manger to the cross on Calvary. Church of Pakistan Pastor Lazarus Haydayat started his Christmas with the word birth. He said, “When a son is born in Pakistan, big celebration is conducted. So that is also for the Son of God. He was born and the angles, shepherds and kings came to pay homage to him”. The pastor connected the Birth of Jesus with the Birth of the founder of Pakistan Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He said that the sacrifice of Jesus saved the whole human race while the founder’s sacrifice made a new nation, a new country Pakistan. There was the prize giving of the Sunday school children who were regular during the whole year. Then there were small gifts from Milap Organization to all the kids who presented the play and skits. Sonia Sadiq on behalf of the Milap Organization thanked for these gifts donated by Pakistan Bible Society’s Mr. Nasir who, very generously, gave the religious calendars of the New Year 2009 and small gift packets for children, which were composed of short Bible stories, which are used for the Sunday school.
