Philadelphia, USA: November 28, 2008. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC expressed grave concern on formation of National Commission for Minorities NCM under chairmanship of Federal Minister for Minorities in a meeting of Federal Minister for Minorities Shahbaz Bhatti and Prime Minister Yousuf Gillani in Islamabad. “Christian reject formation of Minority Commission under any minister or prime minister as being constituted since 1973 because such commission is against true spirit of Liaquat-Nehro Pact” said Nazir Bhatti Nazir S Bhatti clarified that formation of Minority Commission was declared in meeting between Prime Minister of Pakistan Khan Liaquat Ali Khan and Prime Minister of India Pundit Jawahar Lal Nehro in 1950 and duly signed by respective states as Liaquat-Nehro Pact to protect rights of minorities. But high light of Liaquat-Nehro Pact was to constitute such commission under acting justice of Supreme Court. India formed Minority Commission under Chairmanship of Supreme Court and Muslim leaders made presentation to safeguard their personnel law, religious freedom and share in resources of state. On recommendations of Minority Commission the Indian Muslims have their “Muslim Law Board” and equal rights in India. Pakistan never constituted Minority Commission under chairmanship of Supreme Court Justice nor provided any chance to Christian leaders to appear before commission for presentations for protection of their personnel law, election system and share in power. “We condemn Muslim judges to pass judgments on Christian marriages and divorces under Islamic laws because its violation of our personnel law” said Nazir Bhatti Indian Muslims decide their marriages and divorces under decisions of “Muslim Law Board” and Hindu Judges not pass order like Pakistan. “There is not any idea of divorce in Christian marriages but Muslim judges are violating our religious freedom” said Nazir Bhatti “Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto declared himself to be first Chairman of Minority Commission under Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan of 1973 instead of appointing any justice to head denying Liaquat-Nehro Pact and every regime is following same set up which is deplorable” added Nazir Bhatti Dr.Nazir Bhatti stressed upon government to respect Liaquat-Nehro Pact being signatory and appoint acting Justice of Supreme Court to head Minority Commission MC because millions of Christians expressed doubts on National Commission for Minorities NCM since 1973. “We suggest Federal Minster for Minorities Shahbaz Bhatti to withdraw from chairmanship of National Commission for Minorities NCM and hear the voice of Christians who demanded Minority Commission MC headed by Supreme Court Justice according to Liaquat-Nehro Pact” added Nazir Bhatti
