Local family anxious about Pakistan violence

East Greenbush, USA: November 17, 2008. (WNYT TV) With a smile on her face, Nasima Khan looked at pictures of family in Pakistan. But the bright colors and decorative clothing can't hide the reality of what's going over there. "Three days curfew, no food, no water," said Khan. On Monday, troops armed with grenades and machine guns escorted trucks along a major supply route, on a road that leads right to Khan's village. "My aunt is so scared, she says, 'oh I want to move from here from the village," she said. The volatile region is especially dangerous for foreigners. Last week, a diplomat was kidnapped and an American aide worker was killed. Even Khan, who is a Pakistani native, feared being attacked. "I could tell you we were so nervous over here we were praying that she just come out of there alive," said her husband Nisar Khan. The Khan's have started an organization to help people affected by the violence. They send money to villages every month. "As a family who has always helped people, we don't want to lose that. People need help, we always help them," said Nisar Khan. "Speaking in her native language Urdu, Nasima Khan said, "I grew up there, I never saw anything there like this before. This is the first time, and it's all because of a few people want to cause trouble." "The people over there are so simple, they're so scared, they don't know what to do over there," added Nisar Khan.
