PAKISTAN: October 26, 2008. (Khadijah Shah reports for PCP) Twenty-eight-year old Jaweria was caught when she tried to break into a church with a knife. In her disturbed state of mind, she believed that by damaging property inside the church, she would somehow make up for the atrocities against Muslims throughout the world. Jaweria alias Shaheeda went to church on Friday morning around 10:30 a.m. on a passenger bus from her house at Abul Hassan Isphani Road in Scheme 33. She has eight siblings out of whom two brothers are in a jail for robbery, three brothers are in South Africa and she has two sisters. Jaweria is a spinster and has passed her matriculation and intermediate from the St. Joseph School and College and but could not continue her studies because she was mentally disturbed since after her first year B.Sc. examination. She was supposed to be a psycho patient and was undergoing medical treatment under two different physiatrists. The incident took place at St Patrick's Church, near the old CIA center on Mubarak Sheikh Road, in the jurisdiction of Saddar police station. At the time of the incident there were no people there except for the three guards on responsibility. She was wearing a veil when and after seeing the guards, she stood still for a while before going inside, upon which the guards intercepted her and asked her why she wanted to go inside. "I asked her repeatedly why she wanted to go inside," security guard Ellery Pereira assumed. Suddenly, she pulled a knife out from her wallet and warned them that she will stab them to death if they tried to stop her, the security guard supposed. The security guards caught her and immediately informed the police. During the initial course of interrogation, she revealed that "The Muslim population is facing the worst of times and I just wanted to damage Christian property for self satisfaction." "Basically she is a mental patient," Station Investigation Officer (SIO) Shoukat Awan told ROD, adding that she really does not know what she is doing because of her mental condition. He believed that the police however registered an FIR No. 264/08 under sections 324, 341, 554 on behalf of the watchman and sent her away to the women police station. Section 324 is when someone is attacked, while 341 is when someone interferes and 554 is when someone enters premises.
