“Minorities have equal rights” claims senior minister in Punjab government.

LAHORE: October 13, 2008. (Imran Mazhar for PCP) Senior Minister Punjab Raja Riaz on Sunday said Pakistan's religious minorities enjoyed equal rights and social status, adding government had adopted holistic approach to provide further facilities to the minorities communities. The senior minister was talking to a group of minority leader who called on him at his residence. Raja Riaz asked the religious minorities to play active role in getting rid of terrorism and help strengthen the democracy so that Pakistan could be become a land of enlightened peace and tranquility in real sense. The perpetrator of violence and terrorism are our national enemy and they are damaged the national interest, he said. The divine religious have taught of their followers the lessons of religious peace, harmony and brother hood for the collective salvation of the whole humanity, he added. Raja Riaz asked the community leaders of the religious minorities and Islamic school is to come forward and sensitize the people that they are a peaceful nation. The places of worships are the best places to foster the concepts of religious tolerance and peace, he observed. Government is also providing scholarships to deserving students, especial funds for improving living standard and conducive environment for composite development of the minority communities, he concluded.
