Lahore: On 27th February 2026, 29-year-old Christian sanitary worker Naveed Masih was brutally shot and killed while on duty at the Punjab Assembly (Punjab Assembly of Pakistan, provincial legislature Lahore) in Lahore.

Naveed, a government employee, had worked for five years at the People’s House within the Assembly premises. He was allegedly shot by his co-worker, Haider Ali, a private cook employed by Syed Sabtain Raza Bukhari, a Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA).

The Incident

According to Naveed’s brother, Majeed Masih, the tragic events unfolded at approximately 2:45 pm. Naveed was working on the ground floor when Haider Ali reportedly approached Mian Akram, Assistant Controller, requesting that Naveed be sent to Room No. 14 on the third floor — the office of Syed Sabtain Raza Bukhari — for cleaning.

Shortly after 3:00 pm, Haider Ali returned and informed staff that Naveed had been shot, without providing further explanation.

Emergency services (1122) were immediately called. Rescue workers found Naveed lying on the floor and rushed him to Mayo Hospital Lahore (public hospital Lahore). Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.

 Shafiq Masih, Naveed’s eldest brother, told BACA:

“We rushed to the emergency room at Mayo Hospital, but my brother had already lost his life.

He had left us forever.”

A Young Family Left Behind

Naveed leaves behind his wife, Komal Bibi (27), and their 2½-year-old daughter, Naveera. Komal is also expecting another child.

Through tears, Komal recalled her final conversation with her husband:

“He peacefully left for his duty in the morning and called me in the afternoon to say he would return home by 2:30 pm.”

Her grief was accompanied by questions no family should have to ask:

“I request you to get me justice for the murder of my beloved husband. Why has he been murdered?

Why has the father of my innocent daughter been killed? What will I tell her when she asks where her father is?”

Police Investigation

The Islampura Police Station (Lahore police station Punjab) has registered an FIR (No. 499/26) against Haider Ali and one unidentified assailant under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The suspect has been arrested.

At the time of writing, police have not disclosed the motive behind the murder.

Family, friends, and community members gathered to honour Naveed Masih’s life.

“Komal has lost her husband — and their daughter and unborn child have lost a loving father. An entire family has been robbed of its provider and protector. Naveed Masih was simply carrying out his duties when his life was violently and mercilessly taken.

This raises deeply troubling questions. How did such a brutal killing occur inside a government building? How was an unauthorised firearm able to enter what should have been a secure facility? What motive lies behind this senseless act?

Naveed’s family deserves answers, accountability, and justice. The Punjab Government must ensure a full, transparent, and independent investigation so that those responsible — and any security failings — are exposed and addressed. We will continue to stand firmly beside this grieving family during this painful and uncertain time.”
