Lahore, March 2026 — The city of Lahore has been shaken by the tragic and brutal killing of 25-year-old Saltiel Masih, a young Christian man whose life was cut short in a violent knife attack on March 13, 2026, in Bao Wala, Barki Road.
Saltiel Masih, son of Shoukat Masih, was attacked during the daytime in what has left his family, friends, and the wider Christian community in deep grief and shock.
Incident Details
According to the complainant, Samuel Sandhu, the elder brother of the deceased, the incident occurred around 12:35 pm. Sandhu reported that he was at home when neighborhood children informed him that his younger brother had been seriously injured at his workplace.
Upon reaching the scene, Sandhu found a crowd gathered. Witnesses told him that two individuals, identified as Muhammad Bilal and Muhammad Awais, had attacked Saltiel Masih with knives. During the assault, the attackers also reportedly injured two eyewitnesses using iron rods.
Saltiel was immediately transported to General Hospital Lahore via Rescue 1122. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries, passing away in his brother’s presence.
Legal Proceedings
On the same day, a First Information Report (FIR No. 639/26) was registered at C Division Police Station Defense Housing Authority (DHA) Lahore under sections 302, 324, 109, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code against the accused, Muhammad Bilal and Muhammad Awais.
According to the complainant:
• Muhammad Awais has been arrested.
• Muhammad Bilal and another accused, Muhammad Asif, have obtained interim bail until March 31, 2026, granted by the Additional Sessions Judge Lahore.
Funeral and Community Grief
On March 14, Saltiel Masih’s body was brought back to his hometown. His funeral was marked by scenes of profound sorrow, as relatives, friends, and community members gathered to pay their last respects. Emotional prayers and cries filled the atmosphere as the community mourned a young life lost too soon.
Alleged Motive Behind the Attack
During a condolence visit by the HARDS organization, the victim’s family shared details about the circumstances leading up to the attack.
Saltiel had been working from a young age at Ahmad Marriage Hall (also known as Ahmad Banquet Hall), located near his residence. Described as hardworking and dedicated, he supported his family despite earning a modest income.
According to the family, tensions had been growing due to a sanitation issue. A nearby cattle farm and the banquet hall management reportedly disposed of animal waste near the entrance of the hall. Saltiel had repeatedly requested that this practice stop to maintain cleanliness and prevent health hazards. The family alleges that these objections led to hostility. The accused reportedly made derogatory remarks, telling Saltiel that, as a Christian, it was his “job” to clean filth, gutters, and garbage.
On March 13, this dispute escalated into a violent confrontation that resulted in his murder.
While describing the difficulties they are currently facing and the loss of their young, unmarried son, Saltiel’s father could not hold back his tears. His words were truly heart-wrenching as he expressed that no parent should have to witness such a day at his age. He added that while it may be easier for children to say goodbye to their parents, it is unbearably hard for parents to say goodbye forever to their young children.
Family Impact
Saltiel Masih was one of two sons in his family. With his passing, the responsibility of supporting the household—including three sisters—now falls entirely on his surviving brother.
The loss has left the family devastated, both emotionally and financially. Saltiel’s father, Shoukat Masih (70), worked as a daily-wage laborer in the fields but is no longer able to continue due to ongoing health issues. His mother, Farzana Bibi (approximately 60), is a full-time housewife.
Related Incident
This case marks the second reported killing of a young Christian man in March brought to the attention of HARDS. Earlier, in Sargodha District, another victim, Marqus Masih, a farm worker, was allegedly murdered and his body hanged in a cattle shed.
Call for Justice
The Humanitarian Action for rights and Development Society (HARDS) has strongly condemned the killing, calling it:
“An act that shatters the human spirit and raises serious concerns about the safety of minorities in our nation.”
The organization has urged authorities to:
• Ensure swift and transparent justice
• Hold all perpetrators accountable
• Implement long-term measures to protect vulnerable communities
Conclusion
The tragic death of Saltiel Masih highlights ongoing concerns about violence and discrimination faced by marginalized communities. His story is not just a personal tragedy but a reflection of broader societal challenges.
As his family mourns, they are not seeking revenge—but justice. Justice that restores dignity, strengthens trust in the legal system, and ensures that no other family endures such a loss.
