Religious Freedom Under Attack: Sardar Mushtaq Gill of LEAD Ministries Sounds Alarm on Persecution in China and India

Pakistan: Sardar Mushtaq Gill, Founder of LEAD Ministries, has strongly condemned escalating attacks on Christians in China and India, warning that religious freedom is under unprecedented threat.

There are disturbing reports that authorities in China recently carried out raids on the homes and offices of leaders from the Early Rain Covenant Church in Chengdu, detaining several senior pastors. Some remain in custody without formal charges, while church officials describe the operation as a deliberate attempt to silence independent Christian worship.

Simultaneously, in Wenzhou, local authorities began demolishing parts of the Yayang Church under tight security. Residents were reportedly forced to evacuate, and locals were warned against photographing or filming the destruction. Human rights observers say these actions reflect a broader strategy by the Chinese Communist Party to suppress house churches and independent Christian communities.

“Faith cannot be crushed by intimidation or force,” Gill said. “Arresting pastors and bulldozing churches is a blatant attack on human rights and freedom of belief.”

Reports also indicate that China could become a majority-Christian nation in the coming decades, largely due to the growth of underground house churches—a development believed to have alarmed authorities and contributed to the intensifying crackdown.

Gill further expressed concern over similar disturbing reports from India, where extremist and violent groups allegedly disrupted Christmas celebrations, vandalised churches, and harassed pastors. Worshippers were reportedly intimidated, and prayer gatherings were interrupted, highlighting a rising threat to Christian communities.

“Persecution is no longer isolated to one country,” Gill warned. “When churches are attacked in China and pastors are harassed in India, it signals a dangerous trend of global intolerance against Christians.”

Founded by Gill, LEAD Ministries is an international advocacy organization dedicated to defending religious freedom, supporting persecuted believers, and promoting human dignity worldwide. Gill called on the international community, governments, and human rights organizations to take urgent action.

“Religious freedom is a fundamental human right,” he said. “The world must not remain silent while millions of Christians face harassment, imprisonment, and violence for peacefully practicing their faith.”
