Sheikhupura, Pakistan: The first murder of 2026 in Pakistan has cast a shadow over the new year, highlighting the persistent and escalating persecution of Christians in the country. Kashif Masih, a young father of three from Longowal village in Sheikhupura, was brutally killed by unknown assailants after going missing late at night. A brick kiln worker who also worked at a computer and mobile shop to support his family, Kashif’s body was later found in nearby fields, his hands and feet tied—an appalling act that has filled the community with fear and grief. Police have reportedly started investigating the case.

Kashif Masih’s death has devastated his family. His three young children—a daughter and two sons—are now left without their father, deprived of his care, guidance, and protection. His wife, overwhelmed by grief, struggles to face an uncertain future, while neighbors describe the loss as a tragedy that has shattered the heart of the village. The household that once thrived in hope and laughter is now cloaked in sorrow.

Human rights advocates and community leaders warn that this murder reflects a broader pattern of violence and discrimination against Christians in Pakistan, where religious minorities are frequently subjected to harassment, intimidation, and attacks with little accountability.

Sardar Mushtaq Gill, Founder of LEAD Ministries, condemned the incident, expressing his sorrow: “It is deeply saddening to learn that the year has begun with such a tragic event. Knowing that a poor Christian has been killed at the very start of 2026 is a painful reminder of the dangers minority communities continue to face in Pakistan.”

Pastor Imran Amanat, leader of LEAD Ministries, also condemned the killing, stating, “Kashif Masih was more than a father and provider—he was a valued member of his community. Crimes like this cannot be ignored. Every act of violence against minorities diminishes the humanity of our society. Silence only empowers those who seek to persecute the vulnerable.” LEAD Ministries continues to advocate for affected families and document persecution, raising awareness both nationally and internationally to demand justice and protection for minority communities.

Global and local human rights organizations are calling on Pakistani authorities to take immediate action: to conduct impartial investigations, bring the perpetrators to justice, and implement stronger safeguards for religious minorities. Justice for Kashif Masih—and for all persecuted Christians—is not just a legal obligation but a moral imperative.

The killing of this father of three by unknown assailants stands as a grim reminder of the human cost of religious persecution in Pakistan. Beyond statistics and reports, it is a story of innocent children robbed of their father, a family left in despair, and a community living in fear. As the first murder of 2026, it underscores the urgent need for accountability, protection, and reform to prevent further tragedies like this.
