Kasur: Raj Bibi’s home in Kasur collapsed during heavy rains, putting her and her family at risk.

She now lives in a temporary, unsafe shelter with her son and daughter-in-law.

BACA has visited and pledged to help rebuild a safe home.

Donations are urgently needed to provide shelter, groceries, and security.

On 24th July 2025, a Christian family in Kasur, Pakistan, faced a life-threatening ordeal when their home collapsed during hours of heavy rainfall. The house belonged to 79-year-old widow Raj Bibi, who lived with her son Rasheed Masih (44) and his wife Sajida Bibi (42).

When the roof caved in, Raj Bibi, frail and barely able to walk, was trapped inside. Miraculously, she survived thanks to her daughter-in-law Sajida, who had gone to a neighbour’s house for cooking, and alert neighbours who rushed to help.

“The roof collapsed with an abrupt sharp noise, and I ran to my house. My mother-in-law was lying by the side of an iron trunk which kept her safe. Thank God.” — Sajida Bibi

Collapsed roof after continuous rainfall: the Masih family now faces unsafe living conditions

Rasheed Masih, who works in agricultural farms for local landlords, was outside transplanting rice seedlings when the collapse occurred. With his modest earnings, supporting his family is a constant struggle. After the house collapse, the family moved temporarily into a byre adjacent (cowshed) to the destroyed house, which is unsafe and cannot withstand further rainfall.

A request for assistance reached BACA through a friend in Kasur familiar with our work supporting Christian communities. On 12th August, the BACA team visited Raj Bibi’s home, prayed for the family’s safety, and assessed the urgent needs to rebuild a secure house.

“I have a very strong belief in the provision of God, and I believe that God shall provide for rebuilding my house.” — Raj Bibi

The estimated cost to rebuild a safe home with bricks and a cemented roof is Rs. 1369385 [£3,600].

This support will provide families with lasting protection against future disasters.

Pakistan’s Monsoon Crisis

This year’s monsoon has caused catastrophic floods across Pakistan. Over 700 lives have been lost, more than 900 injured, and thousands displaced. In Buner District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a cloudburst dropped over 200mm of rainfall in one hour, sweeping away villages and claiming more than 320 lives. Authorities warn of heavier rains in Punjab, leaving vulnerable families like Raj Bibi’s at constant risk.

A family’s home left unsafe after rain and storm damage.

“No one should have to live in fear inside their own home. Raj Bibi’s situation is urgent, and we are committed to supporting her with the resources she needs. With the generosity of donors, we can rebuild her home, restore her safety, and bring hope back to her family.” — Juliet Chowdhry, Trustee, BACA
