Justice for Gulfam: Standing with His Mother Kishwar. Report by Juliet Chowdhry and Hannah Chowdhry

Pakistan: In May 2025, 19-year-old Gulfam Masih was brutally murdered in Faisalabad after a minor accident with another motorbike.

His widowed mother, Kishwar Bibi, has been left alone, struggling to survive as a low-paid cleaner.

The British Asian Christian Association (BACA) has stepped in to provide groceries and emergency support.

Kishwar now needs ongoing help to cover living costs and to pursue justice for her son.

On 13th August 2025, the British Asian Christian Association (BACA) team travelled to Esa Nagri, Faisalabad, to meet Kishwar Bibi, the grieving mother of 19-year-old Gulfam Masih, who was brutally murdered earlier this year by a Muslim man, Rana Ijaz.

Kishwar, a widow, has been left completely alone since the death of her only son. She now lives in a small rented house and works tirelessly as a cleaner in local Muslim households Despite her hard work, her income is only Rs. 22,000 [£57] per month. After paying Rs. 6,000 [£15] in travel costs to reach different houses, she is left with just Rs. 16,000 [£42]. This income is not stable, as deductions are made if she misses a single day of work.

Earlier this month, Kishwar shared her struggles after the tragic loss of her only son. Overwhelmed by financial burdens and grief, she reached out to BACA for help. In response, our officers visited her, listened with compassion, and provided a month’s worth of groceries, including flour, rice, cooking oil, utensils, soaps, and detergent. But Kishwar’s needs go beyond emergency relief. With your help, we can commit £60 a month for one year to stabilise Kishwar’s future and give her hope during this painful time. Will you stand with us to provide her the support she desperately needs?

With tears in her eyes, Kishwar told us:

“I am so thankful to BACA and to the kind donors who remembered me in my suffering. Your help came at a time when I did not know how I would survive. Because of you, I was able to pay off bills and put food on my table. God bless you for helping the forgotten and standing with families like mine.”

The Day That Shattered a Mother’s World

Life changed forever for Kishwar on 6th May 2025.At around 4:00 pm, her son Gulfam was returning home with a friend on a motorbike.

Near a garment factory, his bike lightly brushed against that of Rana Ijaz, who was coming from the opposite direction. Though no damage was caused, Rana became enraged and began beating and abusing Gulfam.

When Gulfam attempted to escape, Rana pulled out a gun and shot him in the head. Gulfam collapsed on the road, motionless, while Rana fled the scene.

A passerby rushed to inform Kishwar, who was waiting at home for her son. She immediately ran to the site, not knowing that her beloved child had already left this world.

“I found my Gulfam lying lifeless on the road,” Kishwar recalled with heartbreak.

Bystanders flagged down a van to transport Gulfam to Allied Hospital Faisalabad, but doctors confirmed he was already dead from the bullet wound to his skull.

The next day, on 7th May, Gulfam was laid to rest in the local Esa Nagri graveyard.

The Struggle for Justice

Police investigations, supported by CCTV footage from the garment factory, confirmed Rana Ijaz’s crime. He was arrested and sent to Faisalabad jail on judicial remand.

Kishwar has bravely refused a financial settlement offered by Rana’s family, declaring:

“I can never forgive the man who killed my son so coldly.”

The police have now completed their investigation, and the case has been submitted to court. A hearing is scheduled for 16th September 2025. Legal work has begun, but Kishwar needs strength and financial support to carry it through.

How You Can Help Kishwar

Kishwar’s life is marked by grief, poverty, and loneliness. With no family to support her, she faces the daily battle of rent, bills, and groceries—while carrying the heavy burden of pursuing justice for her murdered son.

Through your generosity, BACA has already given her immediate relief. But Kishwar urgently needs ongoing support with groceries, counselling to cope with trauma, and help with legal expenses.

Juliet Chowdhry, Trustee of the British Asian Christian Association, says:

“Our hearts break for Kishwar Bibi, who has not only lost her only son in such a brutal way but now faces the daily battle of survival alone. BACA is committed to standing with her — providing groceries, counselling, and support for her legal case — but we cannot do this without the help of our donors. Every gift reminds Kishwar that she is not forgotten, and together we can bring hope into her darkest days.”
