LEAD Ministries Demands Immediate Justice for Murdered Christian Laborer Boota Masih. Report by Sardar Mushtaq Gill
Pasroor, Sialkot: In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage among minority rights advocates, Boota Masih, a 55-year-old Christian laborer, was shot dead in July 2025 while working in the agricultural fields of Tehsil Pasroor, District Sialkot. The murder, reportedly linked to a land dispute between two Muslim landlords, has once again brought to light the vulnerability of religious minorities in Pakistan. According to reports, Boota Masih was not involved in any conflict but became the victim of a violent feud between the landowners. One of them, Khalid Jatt, is accused of hiring a man named Rana Muhammad Abas, who allegedly shot Masih in the stomach at close range, killing him instantly.
An FIR was registered after the incident, but the accused were granted interim bail and continue to roam freely in the area. Disturbingly, they are allegedly threatening Boota Masih’s family, including his sons and daughters, as well as other members of the local Christian community. The family is now living in fear, and despite the serious nature of the crime, no arrests have been made so far.
LEAD Ministries Pakistan has strongly condemned the killing and called for immediate justice. The organization has demanded the arrest of all those involved in the murder and urged authorities to provide full security and protection to the grieving family. They emphasized the need for a fair and unbiased investigation, free from the influence of powerful individuals. LEAD Ministries stated that this case is not just about one individual but reflects the broader pattern of persecution and discrimination faced by religious minorities in the country.
Human rights organizations and civil society members are also raising concerns, stating that this case highlights the urgent need for stronger legal protections for minorities and for holding perpetrators accountable, regardless of their social or political standing. LEAD Ministries has appealed to the Government of Pakistan, the judiciary, and law enforcement agencies to uphold the rule of law and deliver justice without delay. They have also called on human rights defenders, civil society groups, and concerned citizens to speak out in support of Boota Masih’s family and the Christian community in Pasroor.
