Gujrat, Pakistan: July 16, 2008. (Report By Khadijah Shah) The four alleged accused, on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister, were sent on judicial remand to the district jail Gujrat, who were arrested in connection with the murder of a Danish nationality holder, Tahira Naheed Tabassum, on Monday July 14th.
The accused comprise victim's father-in-law Bashir Ahmad and his three sons, Faisal Bashir, Sheraz and Mohammad Nawaz, who killed Tahira on June 19th at Jaura village supposedly for giving birth to her third daughter. Well placed sources confirmed that the victim's family approached the open court of Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, and complained of police laxity in investigation held in Lahore.
The chief minister issued immediate directives to police to arrest the accused and submit their challans in the court. Consequently, Kharian Saddar Police detained the alleged culprits on July 12th. Meanwhile, an official of Dane police has visited Gujrat and met with the investigators of the case to inquire about the alleged partaking of victim's husband Shahbaz in her murder. Shahbaz, also a designated accused in the case is living in Denmark.
According to the sources, the victim's family had been requesting Danish authorities to get custody of demised Tahira's two daughters who are living presently with Tahira's in-laws. The family has also been asking the police authorities to get Shahbaz back to Pakistan for trial. However, no progress could be made in this regard.
