Pakistan: A deadly roof collapse in Narowal claimed the life of two-year-old Anaya and left several family members seriously injured.
Pakistan: Nabeel was just 16 years old when he was falsely arrested for blasphemy—a child thrown into a nightmare.
Nabeel Masih, a young Christian man whose life has already been marked by unimaginable suffering, is now fighting for his life in a hospital intensive care unit in Lahore after contracting Hepatitis E.
The 24-year-old was falsely accused of blasphemy in Phoolnagar, District Kasur, and arrested on 18th September 2016 at just 16 years of age. He languished in District Jail Kasur for five years without trial or conviction. Thanks to the unwavering advocacy of the British Asian Christian Association (BACA), he was finally granted bail and released in March 2021.
Since his release, Nabeel has struggled with both the psychological and physical toll of his wrongful incarceration. He has undergone two major surgeries to remove painful lipomas from his body—first in May 2021 and again in March 2025. BACA has stood beside him throughout, providing a safe house, covering his medical and living expenses, and ensuring his overall well-being.
However, Nabeel’s health took a sharp decline last month. He contacted BACA’s operations manager reporting severe fatigue, yellowing of the eyes, and nausea—classic signs of jaundice. He was immediately taken to Hamid Latif Hospital, a trusted private facility in Lahore. Under the care of Dr. Inam Ullah Saleem, Nabeel underwent an abdominal ultrasound and Liver Function Test (LFT). The results were deeply concerning.
An ultrasound from Ittefaq Hospital revealed an enlarged liver and spleen. His LFT results painted an even grimmer picture: a dangerously high bilirubin level of 37.37 mg/dL (normal range: 0.30 – 1.20 mg/dL) and elevated SGPT and SGOT enzymes, all indicating acute liver inflammation due to Hepatitis E Virus (HEV).
Despite an initial improvement in bilirubin levels after a course of medication, his health began to deteriorate again. On 11th July, follow-up tests showed a bilirubin spike to 32.21 mg/dL. Then on 19th July, his condition dramatically worsened—he could no longer walk or speak, was suffering intense abdominal pain, and was vomiting excessively.
BACA immediately responded, rushing Nabeel to The Indus Hospital where emergency treatment was given. However, due to the critical nature of his condition, he was referred to a private facility for more intensive care. He is now admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, where he lies in a drowsy, fragile state, fighting for his life.
His father, Amanat Masih (64), made a desperate plea to BACA:
“I’ve already watched my son suffer for years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Now I’m watching him fade before my eyes—weak, in pain, and unable to speak. I feel helpless. Please… I beg you, pray for him. Help me save my son’s life.”
We urge the global Christian community, our friends, and supporters to please pray earnestly for Nabeel Masih’s healing and restoration. This young man has already endured so much. We believe in the power of prayer and the compassion of those who stand for justice. Juliet Chowdhry, Trustee for British Asian Christian Association, said:
“Nabeel Masih has already endured more suffering in his short life than most of us could imagine—imprisoned as a child for a crime he never committed, and now fighting for his life in a hospital bed. It breaks my heart to see this young man, who has shown such courage and resilience, reduced to such a fragile state. We are doing all we can, but we urgently need the global Church and every compassionate soul to stand with us in prayer and support. His life hangs in the balance—and together, we can help save it.”
BACA continues to monitor Nabeel’s situation closely, and we remain committed to doing all we can to save his life.
Nabeel’s urgent medical care is costing £50 a day, with an estimated total bill of around £2,000. If you are able, please consider making a donation to help us cover these life-saving expenses. Every gift, no matter the size, brings us closer to saving his life. Click here to donate.
