Tragedy in Faisalabad: Young Christian Man Brutally Murdered Amid Rising Persecution in Pakistan. Report by Sardar Mushtaq Gill
Faisalabad, Pakistan: In a harrowing act of violence underscoring the persistent persecution of Christians in Pakistan, 19-year-old Ghulfam Masih—a beloved only son to his widowed mother—was shot dead in cold blood in the Ghulam Muhammad Abad (Base Line) area of Faisalabad. The murder, reportedly committed by influential Muslim individuals in a religiously motivated attack, has sent shockwaves through the Christian community and beyond.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Shahzad Masih, Ghulfam’s uncle and an eyewitness to the incident, the tragedy unfolded on May 6th around 6:05 PM. Ghulfam and Shahzad were traveling home on a motorcycle when they were intercepted by two men, one of whom has been identified as Rana Ejaz, riding another motorcycle with a companion named Shahbaz. Following a minor collision, the assailants forcibly stopped the victims, began hurling offensive language, and refused to back down when asked to cease their harassment. Without warning, Rana Ejaz drew a pistol he had concealed and fired directly at Ghulfam’s head, killing him on the spot.
Law enforcement authorities have confirmed the arrest of the prime suspect, Rana Ejaz, and have launched an official investigation. However, the Christian community, along with human rights advocates, is urging authorities to ensure a transparent and uncompromised judicial process.
“This is not just a murder—it is a hate crime rooted in deep-seated intolerance,” said Pastor Imran Amanat, Director of LEAD Ministries Pakistan, a Christian advocacy organization working tirelessly to support persecuted believers across the country. “We vehemently condemn this appalling act and mourn the tragic loss of young Ghulfam. His blood cries out for justice. We call upon the government of Pakistan to act with urgency—not only to prosecute the killers but also to enact meaningful reforms that protect religious minorities from such brutality.”
Sardar Mushtaq Gill, Founder of LEAD Ministries, further emphasized the systemic nature of such violence: “Christians in Pakistan are continuously targeted. They face discrimination, threats, false accusations, and physical violence simply for professing their faith. It is disheartening that in the 21st century, followers of Christ are still dying for their beliefs on Pakistani soil.”
This incident is yet another grim reminder of the growing vulnerabilities faced by Pakistan’s religious minorities. Human rights organizations have long documented patterns of violence, forced conversions, and legal persecution, often under the guise of blasphemy laws or communal hostilities. Despite global outcry and calls for reform, justice remains elusive for many victims.
LEAD Ministries, which has been on the frontlines advocating for the rights and safety of Pakistani Christians, is providing advocacy support to Ghulfam’s grieving family and other persecuted Christians, and continues to raise awareness at both national and international levels.
“Our prayers are with Ghulfam’s mother, who now mourns her only child,” Pastor Amanat added. “Let this loss not be in vain. Let it stir the conscience of a nation. Justice delayed is justice denied.”
As Pakistan grapples with its complex religious landscape, the international community is once again watching—waiting to see whether the country will stand by its constitutional promise of equality and protection for all citizens, regardless of faith.
