LEAD Ministries Urges Global Christian Community to Advocate for and End Bonded Labor of Christians in Brickkilns. Report by Sardar Mushtaq Gill Advocate
Pakistan, Punjab: LEAD Ministries Pakistan has made a heartfelt appeal to the global Christian community to address the growing crisis of Christians trapped in bonded labor at brick kilns in Punjab, Pakistan. Many individuals are being exploited in forced labor under severe conditions, burdened by debt, deprived of basic human rights, and facing extreme restrictions on their religious freedom.
Sardar Mushtaq Gill, founder of LEAD Ministries Pakistan, has called on the international Christian community and churches worldwide to intervene on behalf of these vulnerable Christians. "Christians in these brick kilns are disproportionately affected by bonded labor," Gill stated. "They are trapped in a cycle of exploitation, forced into labor to repay insurmountable debts. These individuals not only suffer physically but are also denied their religious freedoms. The global church must take swift action to free them from this bondage and help them rebuild their lives."
The situation in Punjab’s brick kilns is a deeply entrenched problem, where many laborers are manipulated into accepting loans from employers under exploitative terms. Once indebted, they are coerced into working in the kilns under abusive conditions, often for extended periods without any hope of repaying their debts. This exploitation severely impacts their dignity and restricts their ability to practice their Christian faith freely.
Pastor Imran Amanat and Farzana Imran, leaders within LEAD Ministries, are on the ground daily, hearing firsthand accounts of Christians enduring relentless suffering. "Christians in these brick kilns are particularly vulnerable," said Pastor Amanat. "They often cannot seek alternative employment, leaving them trapped in the hands of brick kiln owners who exploit their vulnerability. This constant oppression not only undermines their physical well-being but also infringes upon their ability to worship freely."
LEAD Ministries is calling for both local and international efforts to secure the release of these Christians and provide them with sustainable livelihood opportunities. The organization stresses that empowering these individuals with job opportunities will enable them to regain their dignity, financial independence, and religious freedom.
Farzana Imran, another leader of LEAD Ministries, explained, "The focus must be on providing Christians with the tools to support themselves. By offering meaningful work opportunities, we can help break the chains of bonded labor and allow them to live lives of dignity and faith."
As LEAD Ministries continues its advocacy on behalf of these marginalized individuals, they are urging the global Christian community to come together in prayer, action, and support. The organization believes that by advocating for the release of these Christians and providing long-term solutions, the cycle of exploitation can be broken.
LEAD Ministries remains committed to ensuring that these Christians are not forgotten. With the support of the global Christian community, they hope to bring an end to their suffering and help them reclaim their freedom, dignity, and faith.
