Faisalabad: Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) expresses deep concern and strong condemnation over the case of Maria Shahbaz, a 13-year-old Christi
The cases reach to highest number to 894, registered under Blasphemy in Pakistan: By Khadijah Shah (ROD)
Shafique, who was accused of vandalizing the Holy Quran, was dispensed a death sentence with burdensome charge of money (0.5Million). Whereas on shredding the folios of Quran and chucking them in trash, he was given the lifetime imprisonment under the countries notorious sacrilege law, by a session court in Sialkot. The root of actual disturbance was that the judge proclaimed this outcome in front of infuriated dissenters and protesters, who were seeking death gathering at the court, with banners and posters demonstrated ubiquitously. A high level of sanctuary had to be put in place to defend the accused man.
According to the reporters, Shafique on, 17th March 2006, in the presence of inhabitants, tore the pages of the Holy Quran and hurled them in garbage. He all together uttered inexcusable words to disgrace the Holy Prophet (SAW). Even after the police emerged, he had no power over his tongue and kept on profaning the Holy Prophet (S.A.W).
Sohaib Ahmad Rumi, the Judge, who proclaimed the consequences, asserted that the accuser was not allowed to be given more punishment than the rule of Pakistan 295C. When the accused person was sentenced to death, the Judge told sorrowfully that after that decision, he was unable to sleep for several days and nights. On proving the disloyalty of the accused he was incapable to give him supplementary chastisement than that, but as far as the high opinion of the Prophet (S.A.W) is concerned, he should be given much more punishment than that.
This accusation of blasphemy is one that has been seen constantly over the last few years which is tracked frequently by fury habitually erected up by fanatic huddle, which consequently it generates upheaval for both authorities and communities. Undoubtedly a few district court judges instead of such bullying are prepared to brawl the case in support of any person prosecuted of blasphemy. The whole situation is akin to the Salem witch trails which took place in the late 17th century in the US in which the people were burnt alive superstitiously. It is regrettable that we have not urbanized ahead of this phase in terms of advancement.
The blasphemy law, tending in numerous sections of Pakistan's punitive colony was widely used and made nastiest during the 1980s, under the regime of the late General
Zia-ul-Haq. Over the last decade, its exploitation has been extensive, usually by labeling it as if to settle trivial disputes. Consequently, Muslims and non-Muslims both have suffered. There was bloodshed and imprisonments some have been slaughtered in prison and others have found that even after discharge by higher courts they are unable to lead a secure life in that country. Still more dangerous is the mindset of misconceptions created by law with rabble assassinations based on realism. Only months ago, a Hindu factory worker accused person of uttering blasphemous words was killed by fellow workers, supposedly watched by police who were unsuccessful to react and save the accuser.
Pains that were taken to launch moderation inside the blasphemy instructions, including a 2004 modification requiring exploration by a higher-ranking police executive of all such cases have proved largely ineffective. This misuse of the law has been criticized by international and local rights organizations. It was time to diminish extremism from the society and move forth with equal rights and justice, to prevent the blatant misuse of the provision that takes place today and which only provides the opportunity to further augment the widespread culture of narrow-mindedness and racism.
