LEAD Ministries Calls for Increased Protection Following Court Rulings on Blasphemy Cases

Islamabad, Pakistan: (By Sardar Mushtaq Gill) In a significant legal development, Pastor Imran Amanat, one of the leaders of LEAD Ministries Pakistan, has urged the Pakistani authorities to provide immediate security for individuals recently granted bail in blasphemy cases. This plea follows a court order in which three blasphemy cases involving a 17-year-old Christian, Akash Karamat, and twin brothers Sahil Shahid alias Kalu and Raheel Shahid alias Tabish, both 18, resulted in their being granted bail and acquitted of all charges.

The ruling has drawn widespread attention and concern due to the volatile nature of blasphemy accusations in Pakistan, where individuals accused of blasphemy often face grave threats, not only from societal pressures but from organized groups. Among the most prominent of these groups is the Khatem-e-Nabuwat (Finality of Prophethood) Lawyers Forum, known for its history of exerting pressure on the judiciary and fueling vigilantism against those accused of blasphemy.

Pastor Imran Amanat, the leader of LEAD Ministries, has voiced grave concern over the safety of those involved in the cases, including the victims and their legal advocates. Despite the court’s decision to grant bail and acquit the accused, there is a pervasive fear that they will face violence from extremist factions determined to exact retribution. Amanat stressed that once a person is accused under Pakistan's controversial blasphemy laws, they live in a constant state of peril, even after their release from custody. “We must ensure the safety of the accused and their advocates, as they are exposed to ongoing threats from extremist groups,” he emphasized.

The foundation of LEAD Ministries, which works tirelessly to advocate for religious freedom and the protection of vulnerable minorities in Pakistan, has stood firm in supporting those affected by these unjust accusations. Sardar Mushtaq Gill, founder of LEAD Ministries, expressed his gratitude to the dedicated activists, lawyers, and organizations that continue to work in defense of those falsely accused under the blasphemy laws.

"We commend the efforts of those who are working for the welfare of the innocent victims of these malicious and unjust accusations. Their unwavering support plays a vital role in the fight for justice and the protection of human rights in Pakistan," stated Gill.

The blasphemy laws in Pakistan have long been a point of contention, with human rights groups worldwide condemning their abuse and calling for their reform. Individuals accused of blasphemy often face extreme violence and persecution, and their families are often forced to go into hiding. Despite growing international pressure, any change to the blasphemy laws remains highly controversial within Pakistan's conservative circles.

As Pakistan grapples with these complex and sensitive issues, LEAD Ministries Pakistan continues to call for greater legal safeguards and security measures for those at risk. The organization's commitment to defending religious freedom and advocating for the rights of vulnerable minorities remains steadfast.

In closing, Pastor Amanat and Sardar Mushtaq Gill reiterated their appeal to the Pakistani government and judicial authorities, urging them to take swift action in providing security for the victims of blasphemy charges and their defenders. The message was clear: the struggle for justice and human dignity must not be overshadowed by the forces of intolerance and extremism.
