Ohio: The American Sikh Council representative and interfaith leader Dr. Gurdas Singh was invited to speak at the conference. The topic under discussion by all the speakers was ‘The Role of Religions in Solving Inequalities’.
There were six speakers from different faith traditions and Dr. Gurdas Singh spoke on the topic from the Sikh point of view.
The interfaith conference was held at John Carroll University, Cleveland, OH was held on Sunday June 2, 2024 and ran from 2:30 – 5:30 pm. Attendees from the following religions were present at the forum; Christian, Jewish, Baha'i, Hindu, Muslim, Jain, Buddhist and Sikh.
Informational literature on the ‘Sikh Religion’ and ‘Sikh Scripture – Sri Guru Granth Sahib’ along with copies of Dr. Gurdas Singh’s presentation were distributed to everyone at the event.
The presentation was well received, especially by women who liked it very much for the fact that the Sikh religion was the first one to give equal status to women more than 500 years ago by Guru Nanak Sahib. After the break there was a panel discussion that lasted for about half an hour. There were about 25 attendees at the conference.
The American Sikh Council continues to be enthusiastically engaged with the local and the national interfaith organizations, while continually trying to make a difference. Dr. Gurdas Singh has been the president of this Interfaith of Greater Cleveland and a member for more than 30 years, while continuing to do sewa with the same passion and zeal.
