HRFP condemned the harassments of Christian women; demanding to bring the culprits to justice!

Faisalabad:  Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) condemned the harassments, attack on the daughters of Nasreen bibi and gun firing on Saira, one of them. HRFP demanding for the protection of victims and to bring the culprits to justice. 

On 26 February 2023 evening Nasreen bibi with daughters Saira, Safina and Samina were walking towards the bus stop. While they were crossing through Main Bazar near Habib grocery store the accused Rashid Asif, Hamza Ramzan and Sharafat Liaqat with an unknown, attacked who were waiting for them.

Rashid Asif targeted to Saira, where during defending by mother and sisters they were subjected to violence and Saira’s cloths were torn.

On crying, people gathered and the perpetrators fled but they followed the family again to their home. They broke the door and beaten Ahsan Masih, son of Nasreen Bibi who tried to stop them. All family members wounded, Robina's leg was fractured and a bullet hits the right arm of Saira, while they were attempting to flee.

Zeeshan Masih being eyewitness, called police through 15 but before the arrival of police, the perpetrators fled.

The wounded family members got medical treatment from General Hospital Ghulam Muhammad-abad Faisalabad.

Although the FIR was registered on 28 February 2023 at a local police station but after not seeing any police actions, the case has proceeds through district and session court Faisalabad. On last hearing of dated 22 March 2023 the perpetrators has applied for the pre arrest bails. The next hearing is on 8 April 2023.

Nasreen bibi stated in FIR that the reason of the attack was for demanding to stop harassing her daughters severally from same men. 

HRFP fact findings the case, visited to family at their house and the family have visited the HRFP office. Nasreen, Saira and others has shared about the harassments, attacks and current details. HRFP ensured them for every possible support throughout.

Naveed Walter president of Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) said that in 2022, Pakistan adopted the Protection against Harassment of Women amended Act 2010 of not only at workplaces but also extends to private spaces such as homes, and to public spaces, such as streets, buses, markets and parks under section 509 of PPC; Insulting modesty or causing sexual harassment. Naveed Walter added that when the Christian, Hindu or other minority women harassed, the more factors has been noticed as well like abductions, forced conversion and forced marriages. He demands to make amendments and add the minority women also in the said sections, he added.
