ISLAMABAD: February 2, 2008. To mark the "Aitzaz Ahsan Day" as decided by the civil society organizations the other day the Convener World Minorities Alliance J.Salik took out a rally in the heart of the capital today. The participants of the rally including women and children especially those from the suppressed classes of the society were holding placards, banners and posters of the deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan, chanted slogans in support of the lawyers community and against the dictatorship. Addressing on this occasion J.Salik lamented the way the government treated judges of the superior judiciary especially the deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. He said the events especially the manhandling of the deposed CJP by the police and his continued house-arrest have brought utter disgrace and insult to the Pakistani nation, and that it is high time for Pervez Musharraf to resign immediately and let the chosen people of the masses to lead the nation. He paid rich tributes to the lawyer leaders including President Supreme Court Bar Association Ch.Aitzaz Ahsan, his predecessors Munir.A.Malik, Justice (Retd) Tariq Mehmood and Vice President Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) Ali Ahmed Kurd, for their undaunted stance against the brutal dictatorship. He called upon the nation to get united in the larger interests of the country and the survival of the state in the new times so that the deposed judges who refused to take oath under PCO could be restored and Pakistan could emerge as a respectable nation in the comity of the nations.
