HRFP’s REAT Helpline Project briefing defending Human Rights & Democratic Values

Faisalabad:  Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) started HRFP’s REAT Helpline Project in collaboration with Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) as introductory meeting and briefing to participants of HRDs Network on 29th January 2021 at “Vision Hall”, Faisalabad.                  

Naveed Walter president of Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) shared with participants that Human Right Defenders (HRDs) Network representing multi stakeholders of the society, community leaders, civil society, social activists, teachers, lawyers, women, political workers and youth for addressing the issues (individuals/groups) of human rights violations to be raised, resolved and strategized for defending and practicing the democratic values.

HRFP with TFD and HRDs Network will conduct monthly meetings about sharing challenges to be tackled and presenting different stories with developments/ follow-ups assisting through legal, basic needs and lobbying & advocacy efforts. The issues/cases that need to be investigated further by fact findings mission trips will be planned and a team of volunteers will be a part of actions. A printing & publications (IEC) material will also be disseminated on issues and for awareness and recommendations.

The consultation meeting with multi stakeholders on Punjab Level, National level and meetings with human rights/line and concerned departments, the awareness through social media, print & electronic media, the human rights protection and promotion activities of democracy including observing National Minority Day with the collaboration among each others are the core activities. Efforts will be centered to sustain the network even after the project also by regular coordination and communication with the members of the HRDs Network and stake holders on a regular basis.

Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) in the light of its vision for protection & promotion the rights of the religious minorities functioning “REAT Help Line (24/7)” having a toll free number (0800-0-9494) at district Faisalabad since 2013 receiving complaints/calls around 1000 a year.  REAT relates to ICCPR articles 18-22. When the REAT (Rights of Expression, Assembly, Association & Thought) including Religious Freedom violations received through REAT Helpline, the desk resolve through sufficient response.                   

Ms Nusrat Samuel (Social Activist), Ms Naseem Haroon (Political Worker), Ms Rehana Yasmeem(HRD), Mr. James Lal (Educationist), Mr. Shahzaib Wilson (Youth) and others welcomed the HRFP’s REAT Helpline Project 2021 and ensured for every support and participations throughout.
