President Arif Alvi urged to end religion base discrimination in recruitment in Pakistan

 Faisalabad: June 26, 2019. (PCP) Chairman of Pakistan Minorities Teachers Association Professor Anjum James Paul in a letter to President of Pakistan Mr. Arif Alvi have urged to end Faith based discrimination of Christians in recruitment.

Professor Paul have said “PMTA would like to draw your kind attention being the commander-in-chief of the Pakistani armed forces on the faith based discriminatory advertisement of recruitment in the Mujahid Force of the Pakistan Army published in the “Daily Express” on June 23, 2019. There are 6 categories in the advertisement and the last one is of sanitary workers reserved only for Christians.  The said advertisement is unconstitutional because it violates and humiliates the fundamental human rights of Christians. There was a time when Christians were the chiefs of army, navy and air forces of Pakistan when it came into being on August 14, 1947 but now they have been invited to join armed forced as sanitary workers”.

“A bird’s eye view of the positions of Christians in the armed forces of Pakistan is presented below; Commander-in-Chiefs of Pakistan army-General Sir Frank Walter Messervy and General Sir Douglas David Gracey. While Chiefs of Pakistan air force Air Vice Marshal Allan Perry-Keene, Air Vice Marshal Sir Richard Atcherley, Air Vice Marshal Leslie William Cannon and Air Vice Marshal Sir Arthur McDonald. Naval chief of Pakistan Navy and Rear Admiral James Wilfred Jefford” have led that Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy after formation of Pakistan since 1953 but now there is none of Christian on any high ranks in armed forces of Pakistan because recruitment policy adopted by governments is biased added Professor Ajum James Paul in his letter to President of Pakistan as reference.

Professor Paul presenting an advertisement have said that “The said advertisement violates the following articles of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973;

Article 3

The State shall ensure the elimination of all forms of exploitation and the gradual fulfillment of the fundamental principle, from each according to his ability to each according to his work.

Article 25 (1)

All citizens are equal before law and are entitled to equal protection of law.

Article 27

No citizen otherwise qualified for appointment in the service of Pakistan shall be discriminated against in respect of any such appointment on the ground only of race religion, caste, sex, residence or place of birth:

PMTA requests to take a prompt action against this unconstitutional and biased advertisement against Christians and order the quarters concerned to address the religious feelings of Christians which have been hurt through the biased and discriminatory advertisement.
