HYDERABAD: November 20, 2018. (By Abbas Kassar) Various organizations and human rights groups took out rallies and held seminars on World Child Day here Tuesday. Society for Protection of Child Rights took out a big rally which was led by Zahid Thebo and participated by street children and members of civil society. Addressing rally Zahid Thebo provincial chief of SPARC said it was so deplorable that even today 25 million children were out of school in Pakistan despite fact that 60 percent of population of country is children. He said in Sindh 6 million children were also out of school. He said it seems that protection of children. He reminded that even Sindh education minister Sardar Ali Shah has confessed that 6.413 were out of school among them 3.383 were girls. Counting reasons, he said 9839 schools in Sindh were without basis facilities, in 17701 there was only 1 teacher in every school while 4901 schools were without roof despite spending Rs.459 billion on education during last 4 years. He demanded from Sindh government to celebrate 20 November as official child day and issue such notification.
Human Rights Commission of Pakistan Sindh Task Force held a seminar on child day which was well attended by teachers, students, journalist and civil society members. Seminar subject was awareness and prevention of sexual abuse in schools. Various resolutions were adopted in seminar demanding implementation on child rights laws including opening of child rights units in every district under law which was passed 2 years back; ban and punishment on child labour, re-opening of 5000 closed schools. Those who addressed seminar included Ghufrana coordinator for HRCP-STF Hyderabad; Farzana also of HRCP; Parveen Soomro council member of HRCP; advocate Amjad Palijo, Zahid Thebo of SPARC and Manzoor Thaheem.
