Belgaum. India: April 29, 2007. (AICC) Bajrang Dal activists attacked Christians at Anmol Hotel in Gokak town near Belgaum, Karnataka on 21 April 2007.
Pastor Peter Jhamkandi along with Pastor Devaiah organisd a children`s festival for about 300 children at Hotel Anmol in Gokak. Hearing about the meeting, around 30 Bajrang Dal activists arrived at the hotel and started to beat up Pastor Peter Jhamkandi and Pastor Devaiah. They alleged that the Pastors and other Christians were indulging in forced conversions.
There was tension at the hotel premises. The attackers damaged the furniture in the hotel. The victims were taken to a hospital nearby. Only when the police arrived on the scene, the situation was brought under control. The police took complaints and arrested people from both the sides. There were taken to court later in the day where they were released on bail.
The churches and Christians of Gokak are in the process of organising a rally to condemn the attack on the programme and also the two pastors. All India Christian Council has condemned the attack and is actively involved in finding it an amicable solution.
