An Interfaith Aftaar Dinner

Lahore: June 8, 2018. (PCP) An Interfaith Aftaar Dinner was organized by National Commission for Interreligious Dialogue & Ecumenism (Catholic Bishops Conference Pakistan) in connection with Ramadan 2018. This Aftaar Dinner was hosted by His Grace Archbishop Sebastian Francis Shaw, Chairman NCIDE and the Executive Secretary, Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap. A number of dignitaries from different walks of life and religions were present in this programme. While welcoming the honourable guests, His Grace Archbishop Sebastian Francis Shaw OFM congratulated all the Muslim leaders and said that the purpose of this programme is to bring the followers of different religions closer to one another and share joys and happiness together in order to cultivate the seed of tolerance, unity and brotherhood. Fr. Inyat Bernard read out the message for Ramdan issued by the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue (PCID) Vatican City, which extends the best wishes for Ramdan and for the coming feast of Eid-ul-Fitr. His grace Archbishop Sebastian Francis Shaw distributed the copies of this among all the religious leaders. Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap, while expressing his views, said, that for years it has become a tradition that we the Christian representatives of NCIDE invite our Muslim co-citizens for Iftaar during the month of Ramadan whereas our Muslim brethren invite us for breaking of fast during Christians fasting days. This bilateral expression of brotherhood brings us closer to one another. Participants of the programme also expressed their views and appreciated the efforts of the Commission for the promotion of peace and Interreligious harmony in Pakistan. They said that such kind of interreligious gatherings are living examples of social and interreligious harmony prevailing in the hearts of citizens of Pakistan. They also commented that this kind of gatherings promote a feeling of brotherhood and unity among the followers of different denominations and religions. They emphasized the need to continue such kind of efforts at all levels of the society. The participants offered prayers for the progress, prosperity and restoration of peace in the country. All the leaders strongly condemned the brutal killing of Sardar Charanjeet Singh and expressed their sorrow on this tragic event. They assured their support to his family. Among the prominent guests of the Iftaar Dinner were Moulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, Moulana Muhammad Asim Makhdoom, Fr. Inyat Bernard, Fr. James Channan , Hafiz Mufti Syed Ashiq Hussain, Allama Asghar Arif Chishti, Pir S.A. Jafri, Allama Dr. Badar Munir, Qari Khalid Mahmood, Dr. Ahmad Chishti, Hafiz Muhammad Nouman, Muhammad Asad, Suleman Sadiq, Muhammad Shafiq Gujjar, Nadeem Chaudary, Moulana Muhammad, Feroz Ejaz Butt, Sohail A Raza, Moulana Shakil Ahmad, Shanawar Hayat Lashari, Mr. Shahid Ambroz Mughal, Samson Paul and Khurram Shahzada.
