Lahore: April 3, 2018. (Sunil John) An interreligious expedition of National commission for interreligious Dialogue & Ecumenism (Catholic Bishops Conference – Pakistan) visited the family of Sunil Saleem; a 26 years old Christian young man who was brutally tortured to death by the security guards and the medical staff of service hospital, Lahore. This team of Muslim and Christian religious Leaders was led by Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap (Executive secretary NCIDE) and Moulana Muhammad Asim Makhdoom. Among the others were Hafiz Mufti Ashiq Hussain, Qari Ahmad Shakil Sadeequi, Fr. Fiaz Rafiq, Dr. Badar Munir, Fr. Lazar Aslam, Hafiz Nouman Hamid, Fr. Qaiser Feroz, Allama Shakil-ul-Rehman, Allama Arif Chishti and Moulana Aslam Nadeem. All the leaders condemned this inhuman act. They showed solidarity with the family through prayers. While talking to the representatives of electronic and print media Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap strongly condemned this brutal act and demanded for justice. He stressed upon the need of tolerance in our day to day life. He also mentioned that there are few people who wish to destroy the peace in Pakistan by creating gaps between religions and promote hatred for each other. We have to stand against such culprits and remain united among ourselves. Muslim and Christian Leaders offered prayers for the soul of Sunil Saleem and assured their cooperation. They too prayed for the promotion of harmony, restoration of peace and progress of the country. They condemned the killing of Sunil Saleem and appealed for a quick action against the criminals to reduce the tension prevailing among the Christian community.
