Christians demand Public Holiday on Good Friday and Easter

HYDERABAD: March 26, 2018. (By Abbas Kassar) Christians in Pakistan have demanded public holidays on Good Friday and Easter as both days are Eid days for them. Diocese of Hyderabad Church of Pakistan Christian leader Bishop Kaleem John in his address to religious gathering said fasting is prevalent in all religions while at this time there are 40 days of fasting in Christianity. He said we have to stay at fasting, blessings, pray are given importance. He said Good Friday will be celebrated on 30 March 2018 as such it was necessary for government and private organizations to pay salary to Christian employees in advance and also to declare holiday for Christian employees on both days. He also demanded no load shedding on these both days so that they can celebrate their Eid days with joy and happiness. He made appeal to Christians to pray for solidarity, security, prosperity for Pakistan and peace, brotherhood and interfaith harmony among all sections of Pakistan society. He asked for prayers to elimination of terrorism, corruption and lawlessness and to make commitment for Quaide Azam’s Pakistan. He said 40 fasting days had started from 14 February 2018 till 30 March 2018 and 1st April will be celebrated as Easter Eid (Qayamat Al-Masih).
