Asma Jahangir honored for her services to humanity

Lahore: February 19, 2018. (PCP) I have come here for condolence for the sudden demise of a renowned Human rights activist ASMA JAHANGIR with my delegation of National Commission for Inter-religious dialogue and Ecumenism (NCIDE). Archbishop Sebastian Francis Shaw OFM chairman NCIDE was talking to the media after paying homage to Asma Jahangir at her Lahore residence and expressing his condolence to the members of the family. He told the media that he met her several times and found her to be dedicated and concerned about the affected people in different cases and she followed the cases of the minorities and especially Christians without any fear. She was so courageous that she followed up the victims of the misuse of Blasphemy Law. We pray for her soul that the Almighty God may reward her by the prayers of the people who have been freed with her efforts. May her soul rest in peace. Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap; the executive secretary of the NCIDE expressed his sorrow that we have lost a voice for the voiceless and expect that the family members will continue to remain the voice of the voiceless. He prayed for her soul. He said “we Christians are grateful for her sincere efforts for the affected people and pray that God may accept her in heaven and reward her for her efforts for poor people. Fr. Pascal Paulus OP; the president of the Major Religious Superiors and provincial of the Dominican Fathers in Pakistan said that a few people of such sincere nature are born in this world. He expressed his sorrow while praying for her soul to be accepted in Paradise. Fr. Inayat Bernard; rector of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Lahore said in Marc 1995 he fought the case of the misuse of Blasphemy Law imposed on Manzoor Masih, Salamat Maish and Rehmat Masih. She was not liked for adocatign the falsely accused person. But she was the fearless person and advocated the safety of human rights. Fr. Qaiser Feroz; Director WAVE studio Lahore and Executive Secretary of National Commission for Communication said that Asma Jahangir was an icon of human rights and she will be remembered for ever due to her courage and concern for the poor victims of the law being misused at times. It is prayed that her life may remain an inspiration for the human rights activists. Other priests who were in the delegation included Fr. Rafan Fiaz, Fr.Fiaz Rafiq OFM Cap and Deacon Nasar OP.
