Washington, DC: January 25, 2007. The World Sindhi Institute (WSI) informs human rights organizations, congressional members of Pakistan Caucus and concerned individuals/organizations that a Luncheon Seminar is scheduled to be held at National Press Club, 529 14th St. NW, 13th Floor, Washington, DC 20045, on February 23, 2007 at 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. The Seminar will be held to commemorate the unfortunate disappearances of journalists, nationalists, innocent political workers and pro-democracy activists by intelligence agencies in Pakistan. Abduction of anyone who voices concern over the human rights violations and anti-democratic approaches has become a daily practice in the country. Particularly so, this practice has been very systematic in the provinces of Sindh and Balochistan, where nearly everyday another activist is picked up by government authorities and held captive without access to fair law process. On February 24, 2006, Dr. Safdar Sarki, a U.S. citizen and key member of the Jeay Sindh Quami Mahaz group, fell into this horrific fate. Just like many other Sindhi and Balochi leaders and activists, his life is in great danger. Pressurizing the authorities and the present military regime of Pakistan is the only way to save all these lives. Please join us in the struggle for justice and fair, non-violent treatment of human beings. In commemoration of 'Disappearances' as a nation wide issue of Pakistan , a platform is being established for sharing thoughts and preparing a workable strategy towards ending this human rights violation in Pakistan. Expected Speakers of Seminar include: 1. Sister Diana, Representative of TASSC ('Torture, Abolition & Survivors Support Coalition) 2. T. Kumar, Representative of Amnesty International 3. Youhannes Tsehai, Representative of the office of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, (Co-chair of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus) 4. Munawar Laghari, Representative of The World Sindhi Institute, Washington, DC
