Lahore: May 12, 2017. (Sunil John) The Great historical Lahore Fort stands magnificently in the center of the City. It reminds the glorious period of Mughal Empire which reigned over Indian sub-continent for three hundred years. . It was a home of different religions. Emperor Jalaluldin Akbar reigned the Mughal Empire in 17th century. He was a great promoter of Interreligious dialogue. He had built Mosques, Churches, Hindu and Sikh Temples all around his throne place. During this era, people were free to celebrate their religious festivals side by side. Today, almost after 500 years, once again this interreligious dialogue was revived when a Delegation of different religions led by Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap, Executive Secretary National Commission for Interreligious Dialogue and Ecumenism (Catholic Bishops’ Conference-Pakistan) along with Mr. Anjum Daara (Director Lahore Fort) Mr. Malik Tahir Yazdani (Director Lahore Heritage Club), Br. Deacon Nazir John, Sunil John, Samson Paul, Mufti Ashiq Hussain, Allama Dr. Badar Munir, Qari Muhammad Shakil and Qari Ahmad Siddiqui visited the Lahore Fort and planted Olive Trees in the courtyard of the Palace, where Kings used to have meetings. It was a cherishing moment to grow tress in a place of strong historical significance. All the leaders appreciated this gesture of outreaching and promoting peace and harmony in Pakistan. It should be noted also, on December 23, 2016, a Christmas Cake cutting celebration was organized by National Commission for Interreligious Dialogue and Ecumenism (Catholic Bishops’ Conference- Pakistan) in association with Council for Interfaith Dialogue Pakistan.
