London: February 3, 2017. (PCP) The plight of a Pakistani Christian mother of five who has been jailed for seven years under the notorious blasphemy laws of Pakistan, will be highlighted in several demonstrations across the UK.
The protests have been organised by the British Pakistani Christian Association and Pakistani origin Pastors throughout Britain, in response to news from the Pakistani High Commission in the UK that a date for Asia Bibi's appeal trial in Supreme Court will be fixed before the end of March.
Wilson Chowdhry, Chairman of the BPCA, said: "I met with the First Minister at The Pakistan High Commission last Friday and he has informed me that a trial date for Asia's appeal is sure to be fixed before the end of March.
"We organised the protests across the UK to galvanise support for Asia in the west. Its clear by the huge numbers of protesters calling for her hanging in Pakistan, that most Pakistani's want her dead.
"Moreover, the last judge retired from his position after refusing to preside over her case in a court debacle when he stated the reason for the adjournment was a conflict of interest.
"We want Asia to know the world is following her case and supports her freedom so we have collaborated with partners across the UK to make sure her plight is kept in the international spotlight. Our belief is this is the only way to save her from the fundamentalists who wish to see her dead."
Asia Bibi was arrested in June 2010 for an alleged blasphemy after she drank well from a well designated specifically for Muslims. Fearful Muslims berated Asia and threw water offered to them at Asia, as they believed her ritual impurity had contaminated the water from the well. I response to the abuse hurled at her Saviour Jesus Christ, Asia simply replied: "My Christ died for me what did Mohammed do for you?" This question led to her being raped and beaten and her children were sexually molested, yet in Pakistan's unjust nation only Asia was arrested.
