Toba Tek Singh, Pakistan: December 27, 2016. (PCP) During Christmas celebration in Toba Tek Singh due to toxic alcohol drinking, 32 Christian died while 16 are still in serious conditions in District Headquarter Hospital under treatment. Two Muslims are also among dead who sold tainted liquor to poor Christians of Maqbool Colony, a residential area of Christians in Toba Tek City, a district headquarters of Punjab province of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The distribution of liquor is prohibited to Muslims but Christians can purchase on licenses from government outlets which sell officially produced brands. Previous month, Sindh High Court in a verdict have sealed shops selling branded products of liquor in Sindh province in a plea that distribution of liquor to non-Muslim on religion grounds is not permitted. During court proceeding, Christian and Hindu religious leaders submitted affidavits that Christianity and Hinduism not allow drinking of alcohol but consider it a sin; The minority religious leaders prayed SHC to cancel permits issued to them by government of Sindh. But in Punjab province, all liquor distribution shops were open during Christmas and millions of rupees alcohol was sold to Christians which is consumed by Muslims as Christian are very poor and do not have buying power of expensive products. As government licensed liquor is sold in KP, Punjab, Balochistan and Sindh provinces of Pakistan but toxic liquor is sold in every city and incidents of deaths of poor Muslims and Christians happen from time to time. It is also reported that Christian men and women are victims of this toxic liquor incident in Toba Tek Singh during Christmas. Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress have urged govern of Punjab to punish culprits who sell toxic liquor that no more life is lost in such incidents in future.
