RAWALPINDI: April 29, 2016. (By Professor Anjum Paul) The tragic killing of Sardar Soran Singh, Special Advisor to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is not only another condemnable act of terrorism but also a sad event that caused enhanced sense of insecurity among the religious minorities in Pakistan. The Peace and Development Foundation (PDF) which is striving for interfaith harmony and equal citizenry in the country in this regard have shown deep concerns and heartiest condolences with the family of slain leader as well as relevant social activists including Haroon Srabdiyal, Krishan Sharma (Chairperson REAT Network), Kilyan Singh and many others. Leadership of PDF expressed this while remembering the services of Sardar Soran Singh for Pakistan as well as for the rights of religious minorities in the country and assured of PDF’s firm support for the family of murdered leader. Romana Bashir, Executive Director of PDF on the occasion said that such hate crimes intend to destroy religious harmony in Pakistan. She said the courageous people like Sardar Soran Singh are targeted because of their firm commitment with the progressive Pakistan and equal rights for minority communities that was dreamt by its founding father Quid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. She said that the lives of the people from minority communities are becoming increasingly unsafe and vulnerable. Romana Bashir urged the government to take strict measures to apprehend the culprits involved in this heinous act under the National Action Plan against terrorism besides taking concrete steps to safeguard the lives and dignity of the religious minorities living in Pakistan.
