Pakistani Capuchins Lit Candles in Memory of Youhanabad Martyrs

Lahore: April 13, 2015. (Fr. Qaisar Feroz) 9th April, 2015: Mariam Siddeeqa Capuchin Custody Pakistan, under the leadership of Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap, organized a day of prayer in memory of Yohanabad martyrs and victims of twin suicide bombing on St. John’s Catholic Church and Christ Church (Protestant). This grave offense of terrorism claimed the lives of 22 Christians, 8 Muslims while around 80 were seriously injured. These two churches were attacked by terrorists simultaneously, during the Sunday Prayer services on March 15, 2015. Youhanabad is the largest residential area of the Christian community in Lahore. Special peace prayers were offered for Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Kenya, India and Pakistan. A day was set aside for peace prayer for the victims of religious fundamentalism and bomb blasts. The intention in prayer was the elimination of terrorism and violence in the world. Fr. Francis Sabir led in the opening prayer. Fr. QaisarFeroz OFM Cap led the peace prayer service. While sharing his reflections he said that, “The first gift of the Risen Lord to his disciples was peace. The disciples received this gift and gave their lives in spreading this message of peace, love, hope and life to the ends of the earth.” He also urged all the friars to promote the non-violent approach of peaceful co-existence introduced by St. Francis of Assisi. In the evening, in memory of Yohanabad victims, candle light procession was led by Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM cap, Custos of Mariam Siddeeqa Capuchin Custody Pakistan. In the end, the peace prayer was recited by Fr. Mahboob Evarist.
