Larkana city areas plunged into sewerage and rain water

LARKANA: April 6, 2015. (PCP) A large number of city areas are plunged into sewerage and rain water, contaminated stagnant water posing huge threats of health hazards for citizens. The representatives of civil society and citizens have expressed concern over the unhygienic pathetic conditions of Larkana and demanded of high ups to take steps to remove responsible authorities. North Sindh Urban Services Corporation (NSUSC) and TMA have been failed to drain out stagnant sewerage water in deferent localities of Larkana included the Kausar Mill Muhalla, Hussaini Muhalla, Gajanpur, Allah abad, Airport road, Yaar Muhammad Colony, Sasti Basti and Sachal Colony, Aqil road, Waleed road, Ayoub Colony, new Nazar Muhalla and several other areas are under the heap of garbage, concerned departments are reluctant to address the public issues. The directives of MNA Faryal Talpur several times to District administration and NSUSC authority to mitigate the problems of citizens, but concerned authorities failed to implement her orders even on 36th death anniversary of Z. A Bhutto at Garhi Khuda Bux, the public gathering place a huge quantity of rain water could not be removed through dewatering machine. Sources disclosed that both the departments TMA and NSUSC were charging huge money of petrol and maintenance of several dewatering machines, but there is no record of such machinery etc. Several areas of Larkana city are inundated by sewerage water and roads with heap of garbage, during her meeting with officials of District administration Larkana regarding the cleanliness of city. Faryal had directed the concerned officials of NSUSC and TMA to take necessary steps and ensure the cleanliness in city but after passage of reasonable time orders of MNA Faryal Talpur orders were not implemented and concerned authorities turned their deaf ear. TMA Larkana which has huge monthly budget called OZT Rs 25 million and its own assets and other earnings through taxes, TMA is only working on street lights but all were plunged into darkness and making payments to huge number of employees, except that it has no role in development, sanitation, planning and other civic issues. Undertaking task of lighting is in doldrums, Larkana completely plunged in darkness, which the crime increases in streets. It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that a massive corruption was witnessed in Solar light scheme, installed solar lights scheme worth of millions of rupees yielded no results and all lights are out of order. North Sindh Urban Services Corporation (NSUSC) was assigned the project of sanitation by provincial government with support of Asian Bank since 2008-9 also failed to deliver the required facilities. Director NSUSC Mehmood Shah told that NSUSC has little budget of 60 million annual budget for Larkana city, despite of that striving hard to address the public issues, he said that shortage of sanitation staff and lack of coordination between the stake holders is reason behind the poor service delivery. Several social and political parties among Pakistan Awami Tehreek, Shehri Itehad, Khaksar Tehreek and others have expressed concern over the poor cleanliness services of NSUSC Larkana and termed it failure for providing cleanliness facilities. Advocate Sajid Mahessar who has recently filed a constitution petition against the district administration, TMA, NSUSC, Public Health Engineering and others also said that due to unhygienic conditions and stagnant sewerage water in various areas, water born disease have out broken in their areas and several children fell pray of Malaria, diarrhea , stomach diseases and others but local authorities are reluctant to dispose off sewerage water in areas, adding that despite of announcement has not carried out the anti malaria spray in their areas. The representatives of civil society appealed to high ups to take notice of matter, remove the heap of garbage and provide the basic facilities to masses. Whereas, the same situation in Kamber-Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad and other parts of division. The citizens of Shikarpur staged a protest demonstration against delay in draining outstanding rain water from roads of Allah Abad colony, Bhittai colony, Alif Shah Shaheed and other parts of the city here on Sunday. Talking to media persons Aktar Ali Jhullan, Sardar Khan Kalhoro, Shabir Ahmed Jatoi and others said that different roads and streets of the city were inundated with rain water and drain water affecting their lives and Taluka Muncipal Administration (TMA) not ensuring cleanliness in their areas due to negligence of the concerned authorities the sewerage water has inundated the main streets and roads in the city and their areas. Protesters further said that the heaps of garbage has not been removed which has resulted in spread of diseases. The concerned authorities despite their several complain have not taken any notice of the matter, they added. They demanded of the higher authorities, Taluka Municipal Administration Shikarpur and North Sindh Urban Services Corporation (NSUSC) official to take immediate notice of the matter and take necessary measures in the matter to provide relief to the masses otherwise they have threatened to accelerate their protest circle.
