Archbishop presides over the mass for martyrs and wounded of Yuhanaabad

Lahore: April 2, 2015. (Fr.Inayat Bernard) “You have not to fear but trust in the Lord as the situation is becoming better by constant efforts being made with the church and the civil administration to ease the tension”. Archbishop Sebastian Francis Shaw OFM of Lahore was talking to over 2000 faithful gathered at St. John’s Catholic Church in Yuhanabad to pray for the 22 martyrs of Yuhanabad tragedy and to show solidarity with the relatives and friends and special prayers for the 70 wounded who are in the hospitals Lahore city. Archbishop continued that the terrorism has affected the whole nation and there is no distinction of church, Mosque, imam barahs, school or even the government installations which have been targeted. He said that the situation will gradually go off and all the faithful are asked to put their trust in the Lord and pray for the real peace in our midst and the entire nation. He thanked the government, civil administration and interdenominational cooperation shown by the religious leaders with their visits, statements and condemnations of the attacks on two church of St. John‘s and the Christ church. He thanked the media and expected that they will continue their cooperation in future as well. The unfortunate events of the attacks and later on the burning of two persons aroused the tension and ill feelings among the communities. Fr. Francis Gulzar, the parish priest and the vicar general thanked the Archbishop, the political and the religious leaders. He said that the Archbishop has been with the faithful at the spot from the very first day of attack on the 15th March, 2015. He thanked one and all through their presence, phone calls and solidarity meetings and conferences. He asked the faithful to participate actively in the sacred services in the Holy Week. Around 60 priests, Church of Pakistan Pastor Incharge Rev. Ashqnaz, and religious concelebrated with the Archbishop and met the people after the mass to show their solidarity and consolation for them.
