HYDERABAD: March 15, 2015. (Abbas Kassar) After twin blasts hit two Pakistan Churches at Youhanabad area in Lahore, Christian Community came out from their homes and staged the sit-in protests at various places of Hyderabad and its adjacent areas.
Hundreds of people from Christian Community including children and women gathered at Hyderabad Press Club (HPC), Latifabad Unit No. 5, Unit No.7 and Unit No. 10, Jamshoro, Kotri and other areas where they protested against twin attacks.
Protesters blocked roads and chowks at different areas by setting tyres on fire.
They chanted slogans against terrorists while they were holding Slabs and placards inscribed with the message of condemning the terrorist attack on the churches.
Besides, some of the shops and markets were also closed to express solidarity with Christian community in wake of twin blast in Lahore.
A Protester Shahid Bhatti who came from Latifababad Unit No.5 told that despite of security threats to community, the appropriate security was not provided to churches on eve of Sunday church mass.
Whatever police personnel, deputed there, were watching cricket match rather performing their duties, he added.
Another protester Roni Bhatti said that the religious minority was being victimized and killed by Taliban and its allies in Punjab province but provincial government did not take any serious steps to address this issue.
We demanded from Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to provide appropriate security to them and bring the culprits to justice.
The twin blasts hit Catholic Church and Christ Church in the Youhanabad area of Lahore city – capital of the largest province Punjab of Pakistan when the Sunday church mass was underway which claimed lives of more than 15 people including two policemen and more than 70 injured.
Hyderabad-based Social Activist, Sahib Oad said that it was condemnable act where religious minority was being targeted on basis of religious.
“Government should take an appropriate step to provide the security to community to avert such incidents in future”, he added.
Imtiaz Boota director Christian Communication Development Network Pakistan has also condemned blast with observation that Punjab government failed to provide protection to Christians even on their worship day Sunday as its security forces provide protection to VIPs while minority community which is already vulnerable is left at mercy of terrorists. He made appeal to army chief to take steps for protection of Christian community.
